Child Development Center
(Ages 2, 3 and 4)

We believe the preschool years should be rich and happy. We strive to create a Christian atmosphere in which children are accepted and loved for who they are. It is our commitment to use God’s Word to teach and develop each child to the fullest potential Spiritually, Mentally, Physically, and Socially. During the school day, teachers create a balance between individual work, whole group activities, and small group lessons.

We use the ABeka curriculum in our 2, 3, and 4 year old classes. Dramatic play and outdoor play are also important aspects of the preschool curriculum.

An appreciation and love of literature is developed in the preschool at story and circle time. Children are encouraged to look at books alone or with a classmate.

Language development is part of every phase of the curriculum. The creative use of vocabulary is encouraged through circle and story time, discussion of home and school experiences, poetry and song.

The preschool social studies curriculum is an integral part of the day. Emphasis is placed on respect for others, an appreciation of cultural differences, and a strong sense of community. Through classroom experiences children learn an organized approach to their environment. They learn independence through caring for themselves and their classroom.

The world of science is an exciting part of preschool curriculum. The children’s understanding of the natural and physical world is broadened through investigations into science based topics. Exploration of the five senses, dinosaurs, and growing plants are some class favorites. Nature walks around the campus afford children the opportunity to investigate tree, birds, and the changing seasons.

Children develop number concepts by interacting with a wide variety of materials. Counting skills, one to one correspondence, recognition of basic geometric shapes, patterns, sorting and classifying are all part of the preschool mathematics curriculum.

Children are given the opportunity to explore a wide range of art media. These include tempera paint, watercolors, clay, finger paints and collage. Children will learn the basic skills necessary to become more independent in their creative endeavors. They will also learn to cut, fold and use glue.

Children participate in music, physical education, library and Spanish once a week taught by a member of the elementary faculty. These classes give children the opportunity to express themselves through movement, gesture, speech and song. In addition, fine and gross motor skills as well as physical development are developed utilizing a variety of manipulatives and equipment.
